Parent Notes

October 24, 2014

Dear Parents,

We had a nice week in class. In math, we continued to work on our numbers though 10. We also worked on the ideas of more and fewer, and putting numbers in order. The children also took a quick assessment on their numbers through 5, and the majority of the children did well with this. Over the next few weeks we will continue to work on the numbers through 10, and begin some simple addition. In language arts, the children focused on the letter p, and the sound that it makes. The kids are getting good at listening for beginning sounds in words. They also were introduced to the words we, my and like in a new little book this week. Please review the sight words, as well as the alphabet with your children throughout the week. In science, we continue to look at fall, and the changes that take place. The children made some beautiful leaf rubbings that are hanging in the class. For homework this week, the children will practice the letter P, work on the numbers through 10, and complete a page of rhyming.

I want to briefly remind you of several upcoming events. Tomorrow is the Lu Sutton Halloween Carnival from 3:30 to 6:30. This a fun time for the children, and a big fundraiser for the school. The PTA is always looking for help with this event, so if you can spare some time it would be appreciated. Parent/Teacher conferences begin next Monday, October 27. I’m looking forward to sitting down, and talking to you about your children. I left the conference schedule up as a reminder. If you have marked a T by your name on the schedule, I have reserved a translator for the conference. If you did not mark a T, but feel you would need a translator, please let me know by Monday. Friday, October 31, we will be having a Kindergarten Halloween Parade at 11:15. We will be walking around the kindergarten playground with the other kindergarten classes. The children may come to school in costume that day. We will also be having a Halloween Party at 12:45 on that day. There is a sign up sheet for this event posted at the door. You can also still donate to the party fund if you haven’t done so. All parents are welcome to join us for both the party and the parade.

Thanks again,

Steve Madson
